extended cleaning and desinfection

This section is an appendix to the Spiromatic S-Face Mask and Breathing Valve User Manual and includes full instructions on extended cleaning and desinfection.

Please read the S-Face Mask/BV User Manual before you continue.

Instructions for extended cleaning and desinfection are also available in Swedish, French and German (Acrobat PDF downloads on the left side).

Exhalation valve

  1. Disconnect the breathing valve.
  2. Use your thumb to push the locking pin on the left hand side (as worn) upwards until it releases the exhalation cover. [Fig 1]
  3. For version with first breath activation push the locking pin on the right hand side (as worn) upwards until it releases the exhalation cover. [Fig 2]
  4. Remove the exhalation valve. For ambient air hatch version push down the indicator arm to release the exhalation valve.
  5. Wash the exhalation valve in lukewarm water (maximum 40° C) with a mild detergent to remove dirt. Check that there are no remnants of dried body fluids.
  6. Disinfect the exhalation valve following the instruction supplied with the disinfectant.
  7. Rinse the exhalation valve carefully with clean water.
  8. Let the parts dry.
  9. Mount the exhalation valve beginning at the right hand side (as worn). For version with ambient air hatch the indicator arm must be pushed down when the exhalation valve is inserted.
  10. Mount the locking pin(s).
  11. For version with ambient air hatch operate the hatch mechanism several times to check the functionality. For version with first breath activation check that the exhalation valve is firmly secured to the face mask.

Breathing valve

  1. Disconnect the breathing valve.
  2. Unscrew the cover of the breathing valve and remove the positive pressure spring. [Fig 3]
  3. Carefully remove the diaphragm locking ring. [Fig 4]
  4. Turn the lifting arm away from the diaphragm housing to lift the diaphragm to the full extent of travel and remove it from the lever.
  5. Clean the diaphragm, diaphragm ring, positive pressure spring and cover in lukewarm water (maximum 40° C) and a mild detergent. Wipe the valve housing with a cloth and lukewarm (maximum 40° C) with a mild detergent to remove dirt. [Fig 5]
  6. Rinse the diaphragm, diaphragm ring, positive pressure spring and cover in clean water. Wipe the valve housing with a cloth and clean water.
  7. Dry the parts thoroughly.
  8. Turn the lifting arm away from the diaphragm housing to lift the lever and mount the diaphragm. Ensure that the lever is correctly located between the diaphragm plate and the roller and at 90° to the roller. [Fig 6]
  9. Mount the diaphragm into the groove in the valve hosing. Make sure that it fits properly and evenly into the groove.
  10. Mount the diaphragm ring. The side with flat protruding edge on the diaphragm ring must be mounted towards the valve housing. By gently pushing the diaphragm down the rubber is stretched making it easier to mount the diaphragm ring. [Fig 7]
